Welcome to the Counseling Center
The Counseling Center offers an array of programs, workshops, and services. The Center provides students with academic support and a comprehensive college counseling program. Each counselor is licensed by the state of Louisiana and certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors to offer confidential personal counseling to students. The Counseling Center is located in room 137 of the High School Building. The Center is staffed from 8-4:30. Students are encouraged to visit the Counseling Center and make an appointment with a counselor to obtain help in any of the three areas listed below.
College Counseling
The Counseling Center offers a comprehensive college counseling program. The Center provides information about colleges and scholarships through the College Fair, individual college visits, financial aid workshops, and publication of the Counseling Center Newsletter. Counselors individually advise and collaborate with students on issues of college admission and scholarships beginning in the spring of the junior year. During the senior year, counselors write individual letters of recommendation for each of their students and support students in the decision-making process. Students are encouraged to work closely with their counselor at this time to assure that applications and supporting documents, including transcripts, are sent in a timely fashion.
Academic Counseling
Dealing with the increased workload and its difficulty here at the Louisiana School is a challenge for some students. Counselors help by meeting with students to support the development of time management, self management, and study skills. Academic counseling also includes helping students find the confidence and the time to take advantage of the built-in academic resources, e.g. faculty office hours and guided study, here at the School.
Personal Counseling
The Counseling Center provides confidential counseling for personal issues that affect our students academically, socially, or emotionally. Stress, homesickness, and adjustment to living away from home are typical concerns. Counselors can provide students with brief therapy and can refer them to other professionals when necessary.
