LSMSA NAMED PUBLIC ELITE FOR THE FOURTH TIME

For a fourth time since 2006, the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts has been named one of the nation’s “Public Elite” high schools.  Jay Matthews, education editor for the Washington Post, recently published the 2011 national high school rankings based on his formulae which measures “how effectively a school prepares its students for college.”  More than one thousand nine hundred schools were ranked, but Matthews identified twenty-four schools whose student performances so far outpaced the average school that they stood alone.  Four of LSMSA’s fifteen “sister schools” also made the list – Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics, and South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics.
