Science Speaker Series: Dr. Chris Gilson , "Climate Change and the Early Modern World"

CPT - Center for Performance & Technology - Recital Hall - T104
Dr. Chris Gilson, Associate Professor of History and Coordinator of the History Program at Northwestern State University, will present "Climate Change and the Early Modern World" in the CPT Recital Hall at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14:

"During the Little Ice Age (1550-1850), average temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere fell by more than one degree Celsius. Frosts, floods, and storms profoundly affected European economies, societies, and cultures. Explaining such changes presented numerous challenges, even for those well-versed in theology, astrology, and Aristotelian meteorology. This presentation introduces the Little Ice Age and popular and scholarly sources that help historians explore early modern perspectives of climate change."

LSMSA's Science Speaker Series events are free to attend and open to the public. The CPT Recital Hall is located on the west side of the High School Building at 715 University Parkway in Natchitoches, across the street from Smoothie King and Pizza Hut.
