LSMSA introduces External Affairs team

“We’re excited to take the high energy we’re feeling now with students returning to campus and share it with the community,” said Executive Director Dr. Steve Horton. “There are a lot of good things happening here for us to share both locally and throughout the state.”

 

Having worked as the assistant director of communications for the LSMSA Foundation for the past two years, Rebekah Maricelli is no stranger to the Louisiana School family. Her new role as the school's Senior External Affairs Officer will keep her involved with the Foundation, Parents' Council and Alumni Association as the team tells the story of the state’s preeminent residential high school for high-achieving, highly-motivated students.

 

“The Louisiana School provides students with incredible opportunities today and sets them up for academic, personal, and professional success,” said Maricelli. “I'm looking forward to sharing the amazing things happening at LSMSA and because of LSMSA.”

 

A Mississippi Gulf Coast native, Rebekah and her husband Michael moved to Natchitoches from Baton Rouge to be closer to his family. With a degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and over 20 years of experience in public relations and communications, a job opening at the Foundation piqued Rebekah’s interest. She immediately became attached to the school and its students -- particularly their contagious drive and enthusiasm for learning. She also fell in love with Natchitoches, and is enjoying becoming more involved in the community as a board member of the Service League.

 

Working with Maricelli, Corey Poole echoed her sentiment regarding the students. Poole, who has a journalism degree from Northwestern State University through the Louisiana Scholars’ College, was hired in August of 2020 for part-time assistance with content creation.

 

“I’m looking forward to the new school year and seeing students return to campus,” she shared. The limited interactions she had as students were brought back to campus in cohorts during the Spring semester showed her how amazing LSMSA students are and how rewarding working at the school is.

 

“The combination of Corey's experience in journalism and content creation, the wealth of untold stories from students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the school, and how supporters are helping students succeed put us in a prime position to spread the word about the gem that is Louisiana School and how life-changing it really is,” said Maricelli. "Natchitoches and Louisiana as a whole have much to be proud of in LSMSA."
