John Allen ('98) - Treasurer

Dr. John A. Allen was born and raised in Lena, Louisiana. His time at LSMSA began in 1996 where he thrived in the humanities and arts, served as junior class vice president and senior class president, and was honored to be prom king. His favorite instructors were Bob Gregory, Dr. Brown, and Dr. Beier. 
John graduated from LSU with a bachelor of arts in political science and history in 2002. He went on to obtain his masters in public administration with a concentration in management from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2006. John eventually obtained his doctorate of education with a concentration in adult learning and development from Northwestern State University in 2022. 
 
In 2005 Dr. Allen worked for the U.S. General Services Administration, Public Building Services, as a senior budget analyst. John got his dream job in 2013 as the LSMSA director of finance and operations under Dr. Widhalm. In 2015 he began adjuncting in public administration and American Government and in 2016 he assumed the additional role of LSMSA chief of staff to Dr. Horton. 
 
In 2023 John finished his tenure as director of administration at LSMSA after a decade of service. He moved to Texas and married his life partner Cliff and adopted a Corgi they named Woodreaux. Dr. Allen currently serves as a grant specialist for the Region 12 Education Service Center in central Texas and teaches advanced ESL at McLennan Community College. He also continues to serve as an instructor of political science at LSMSA. 
 
Dr. Allen is excited about continuing to serve his alma mater as the treasurer of the LSMSA Alumni Association and on the LSMSA Foundation Campaign Cabinet. John will also continue to serve as the LSMSA Class of 1998 reunion coordinator.
