23rd Annual McGrath Math Competition

The LSMSA Math and Computer Science Department enthusiastically invites you to participate in the 23rd Annual McGrath Math Competition at LSMSA sponsored by the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts on Thursday, November 21, 2024. All activities will take place in Robert A. Alost Gymnasium and David C. Treen Auditorium.

To be eligible to participate, students must be in grades six through nine and may not be enrolled in, or have already taken, Algebra II or any higher mathematics course. Each school can bring as many students as they wish to take the Individual Test, but only 12 students from each school may participate in the Team Competition due to space constraints.

The competition will consist of two parts: Individual and Team Competitions. The exercises in each contest will come from algebra, geometry, and other areas of mathematics. The exercises will not come from any specific curriculum. Questions will be designed to challenge students to draw from their knowledge of mathematics and to think logically, synthesize concepts, and solve problems.

Registration for this year's math competition is now open. Schools must register for the competition by Friday, Nov. 8.
