Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) in Natchitoches will host a public ceremony honoring Veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7. The ceremony will be held in Treen Auditorium on the first floor of the High School Building at 715 University Parkway. The program, which is being organized by the Class of ’25 Student Government Organization, is free to attend and is expected to last approximately one hour. Parking is available in lots located on the east and west sides of the school. It is not necessary to RSVP, but visitors to campus must sign-in with the Executive Office in Room 130 of the High School Building before being seated in Treen Auditorium. Visitors are encouraged to enter LSMSA through the building’s front doors, which face University Parkway. See a campus map here

“This year, we are especially honored to welcome an incredibly distinguished guest speaker who will bring unique perspective and firsthand experiences of service and sacrifice,” said LSMSA student Peter Yu (’25), a Choudrant native and current SGO President. “My hope is that everyone will connect and reflect on the legacy of our veterans, carrying this experience beyond the day's events.”

The program will include a salute to Natchitoches resident Dr. Jerry Glynn Ferguson, who served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. A prize-winning essay on the topic “What Does Veterans Day Mean to You?” will be read, and student ensembles will perform patriotic music. Student organizers will also display a slideshow honoring Veterans in the extended LSMSA community. Veterans Day observations have occurred annually at LSMSA since 1986, when LSMSA’s second Executive Director, Dr. Richard Brown, organized the first campus-wide observance.
